Northglow is permanent exterior lighting you install yourself. Powder-coated aluminum channel mounts once under your eave or along your fascia and stays there — no clips, no staples, no ladder in December. Warm white for most of the year, full color when you want it, controlled from your phone.
Why people do this themselves
A professional permanent-lighting install runs $20 to $30 per linear foot in most of the country, and many of the national brands sell exclusive territories, so what you pay depends on who happens to hold your zip code. The same hardware, shipped to your door, runs $11.25 to $15 per foot here depending on length. On a 200 ft elevation that is the difference between roughly $5,000 installed and $2,500 in your garage.
You are trading a weekend for the difference. That is a good trade for a lot of people and a bad one for some — the section below on what the install actually involves is there so you can tell which you are before you order.
What arrives
- Point lights on 8 in centers — 1.2 in across, three diodes each, silicone-potted to IP68. RGB plus a dedicated 3000K warm white diode, so white is actually white rather than three colors pretending.
- Aluminum channel in 3.3 ft sections, five pre-drilled mounting holes each, powder-coated in your chosen finish. The lights seat into the channel; the channel is what you screw to the house.
- Wi-Fi controller and power supply, sized to your run, with the power box and a standard US plug lead.
- Connectors, jumpers, T-injection taps and Y-splitters to get power and signal around corners, across gaps and back to the outlet.
Runs over 300 ft ship with a second controller and supply, because one controller drives up to 300 ft across two channels. You do not need to work that out — order the length you need and the right hardware comes with it.
Measuring your run
Measure the rooflines you actually want lit, edge to edge, and add about 10% for corners, gable peaks and the drop back to your outlet. Round up to the next size — leftover channel is far easier to live with than coming up eight feet short on the last gable.
If you would rather not guess, send us a photo of your elevation with the roofline you want lit and we will measure it by hand and tell you what to order. We would rather spend ten minutes on that than process a return.
12V or 24V
At 150 ft and under, either works. 12V is proven and widely stocked, and it is the sensible pick if you are matching a system you already own.
Over 150 ft, choose 24V. It draws half the current for the same output, so brightness holds to the end of the run and you need fewer power injection points. Past 250 ft, a 12V run needs so much injection that the wiring becomes the hardest part of the job.
Whichever you pick, note it down. Extensions and replacement sections must match — connecting 12V lights to a 24V supply destroys the run, and that is not covered by the warranty.
Channel finishes
Five stock colors — White, Cream, Black, Brown and Light Grey — chosen to disappear against the trim they mount on. The channel is the part people see in daylight, so match it to your fascia rather than to the lights.
None of them right? Custom match adds $200 to any order, once, not per foot. Send a RAL number, a Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore code, or a photo of your trim. We powder-coat to match and email you a photograph of the coated channel next to your code before we build the rest. Custom color adds about ten business days.
What the install actually involves
Being straight with you, because the reviews that hurt are the ones from people who did not expect the work:
- You will be on a ladder, at the height of your roofline, for most of a weekend. If that is not something you are comfortable doing, this is the wrong product and you should hire it out.
- You need a drill, a level and a tape measure. No specialist tools.
- The channel screws to fascia, soffit or trim through the pre-drilled holes. Every 3.3 ft section has five, so it lands on studs and rafter tails without much fuss.
- It plugs into a standard exterior outlet. No hardwiring and no electrician, provided you have an outlet within reach of where the run ends. If you do not, adding one is an electrician's hour and worth doing properly.
- Budget a weekend for a typical 150–250 ft house, more if your elevation is complicated or your ladder work is slow. Two people is much easier than one.

Warranty and returns
Five years on the lights, channel and control hardware. Thirty days to return it if you change your mind — including if you have opened the box and held a section up to the house to see how it looks.
