1. Who these terms are between
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of northglowled.us and any purchase you make from us. "Northglow," "we," "us," and "our" mean Northglow. "You" means the person browsing or buying.
By placing an order or using the site, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't order.
We may update these Terms. The version in force for your order is the version posted when you placed it, and we'll keep prior versions available on request.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract. If you're ordering on behalf of a company, you represent that you're authorized to bind it.
3. The products
Northglow sells permanently mounted exterior LED lighting systems: addressable RGBW point lights in an aluminum mounting channel, with a controller, power supply, and the connectors and injectors needed to run them.
Colors and photography. Screens vary. The channel finishes shown on the site — White, Black, Light Brown, Dark Brown — are photographed as accurately as we can manage, but the finish you receive may differ slightly in hue from what your monitor or phone displays. Install photographs on the site are real systems in real conditions; the appearance of your own install will depend on your roofline, your surroundings, and your ambient light.
Custom match. For $200 we powder-coat your channel to a color you specify. Custom match is made to order. See our Return & Refund Policy for how returns work on custom-match orders.
Specifications change. Suppliers revise components. We may substitute a component of equal or better specification without notice. If we make a change that materially reduces what you ordered, we'll tell you before we ship and you can cancel for a full refund.
4. Pricing
Product is priced per lit foot, currently $13.33/ft, in U.S. dollars. Your total is the footage you select multiplied by that rate, plus any custom-match surcharge, plus shipping and applicable sales tax.
Sizing estimates are estimates. Any footage figure produced by our on-site sizing tool, or suggested by us in email or over the phone, is an estimate based on the information you give us. It is not a measurement and it is not a quote. You are responsible for measuring your own roofline. We strongly recommend ordering more footage than you think you need — extra channel is cheap and a short run is not.
Voltage guidance is a recommendation. Our per-length voltage recommendation reflects typical voltage drop over a continuous run. Your actual run geometry, injector placement, and ambient temperature will affect performance. If you order 12V on a long run against our recommendation, you may see brightness fall off toward the end of the run, and that is not a defect.
Errors. If a product is listed at a clearly incorrect price, we may cancel the order and refund you in full, even after you've received a confirmation. We won't do this to walk back a promotion we actually ran.
5. Orders
Your order is an offer to buy. Our order confirmation email is an acknowledgement of receipt, not acceptance. The contract forms when we ship.
We may refuse or limit any order — for suspected fraud, for reseller-quantity orders, for addresses we can't ship to, or for stock we don't have. If we refuse an order you've paid for, we refund it in full.
6. Payment
Payment is taken at checkout through Shopify's payment processing. We don't store your full card number. You represent that you're authorized to use the payment method you provide.
7. Shipping, title, and risk
We ship within the United States. Estimated delivery windows are estimates, not guarantees, and we're not liable for carrier delays.
Title and risk of loss pass to you on delivery to the address you gave us. If a package arrives damaged, see the Return & Refund Policy — we'll handle it.
You're responsible for giving us an accurate address. Reshipment after a failed delivery to a bad address is at your cost.
8. Returns
Our Return & Refund Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference. In short: 30 days, no questions asked, we pay return shipping, installed systems included. Read it for the details.
9. Warranty
We warrant that the system will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for five (5) years from the date of delivery, under normal residential use and correct installation.
What we do: repair or replace the defective component, or refund its value, at our option. That is your exclusive remedy.
What the warranty does not cover:
- Damage from incorrect installation, including running the system outside its rated voltage or exceeding a controller's or power supply's rated capacity
- Damage from modification, cutting or splicing the light string, or use of a third-party controller or power supply
- Damage from lightning, power surge, flood, fire, falling limbs, ice dams, roof work, animals, or impact
- Operation outside the rated environmental range of -4°F to 113°F
- Cosmetic wear to the channel finish, including fading, chalking, or oxidation from sun exposure
- Systems that have been removed and reinstalled at a different property
- Labor to remove or reinstall any component
To claim, email us with your order number, photos, and a description. We may ask you to run basic diagnostics before we ship parts.
10. Installation, electrical safety, and code
Read this section.
Northglow sells hardware. We are not electricians, we are not contractors, and we do not provide installation services. Guides, videos, diagrams, and support answers we publish are general information, not engineering advice, and they are not a substitute for a licensed professional.
You are solely responsible for:
- Installing the system safely. This work happens on ladders and roofs, at height, with electrical components. Falls are the real risk here, not the lighting. If you are not comfortable working at height, hire someone who is.
- Compliance with the National Electrical Code and all state, county, and municipal codes, including permit requirements, GFCI protection, and requirements for exterior receptacles and low-voltage runs.
- Compliance with any HOA covenant, deed restriction, historic district rule, or landlord requirement that applies to your property. We do not check these for you and we do not refund on the basis that your HOA said no — though your 30-day return window covers you either way.
- Verifying load. Confirming that the run length, injector placement, and power supply capacity you've configured are within spec.
- Roof and structure. Any penetration you make into fascia, soffit, or roofing is yours. We are not responsible for water intrusion, damage to roofing materials, or voiding of a roofing warranty.
If you hire an installer, they are your contractor, not ours. We don't vet, certify, employ, or supervise third-party installers, and we're not responsible for their work.
11. The app and connectivity
The system is controlled through a third-party Wi-Fi controller and its mobile application. That app is not ours. We don't control its availability, its feature set, its update schedule, its privacy practices, or whether it continues to be published to app stores. We'll do what we reasonably can to keep a working control path available, but we do not warrant continuous availability of app or cloud functionality, and a change made by the app vendor is not a defect in the hardware.
12. Disclaimer
Except for the express warranty in Section 9, the products and the site are provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all other warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Some states don't allow the exclusion of implied warranties. If you live in one, this section applies to you only to the extent that state's law permits, and you may have additional rights.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms, the site, or any product, will not exceed the amount you actually paid us for the product giving rise to the claim.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, loss of use, property damage, or cost of substitute goods or services, even if we were advised such damages were possible.
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under applicable law.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Northglow harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable legal fees arising from your installation or use of the product, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right — except to the extent the claim arises from a defect in the product itself.
15. Intellectual property
The Northglow name, logo, site design, photography, copy, and product imagery are ours or licensed to us. You may not copy, reproduce, or use them commercially without written permission. Sharing a product photo when you're recommending us to a neighbor is fine and encouraged.
16. Content you submit
If you post a review, photo, or comment, you keep ownership of it and you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and reproduce it in our marketing. You represent that it's yours to license and that any people identifiable in it have consented.
We may remove content that is unlawful, defamatory, or off-topic. We do not edit or remove reviews for being negative.
17. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why. Using the site means you accept it.
18. Third-party links
The site may link to third-party sites. We don't control them and we're not responsible for their content or practices.
19. Force majeure
We're not liable for failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control — including carrier failure, port closure, customs action, natural disaster, war, epidemic, labor action, or supplier failure. We'll tell you promptly and either extend the timeline or refund you.
20. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Before filing anything, email us. Most disputes about a $1,000–$4,000 lighting system are resolvable in a single conversation, and we'd rather have that conversation.
If we can't resolve it, you and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Illinois, and each of us consents to personal jurisdiction there. If you're a consumer residing elsewhere in the United States, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection provisions of your home state, including your right to bring a qualifying claim in your local small claims court.
21. General
Severability. If a provision is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
No waiver. If we don't enforce a provision, we haven't waived it.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a sale of the business.
Entire agreement. These Terms, the Return & Refund Policy, and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us regarding your purchase, and supersede prior discussions.
